FAQS

Here are answers to the questions we hear most often about the UltraThinSeal™ system. If you have questions beyond these or want a few more details, please reach out to us!
Which types of package films does this technology seal?
With our technology, you can seal any film that has a thermoplastic component. This includes (but definitely isn’t limited to) the following:
  • Polyethylene-based film (e.g., LDPE)
  • Polypropylene-based film (e.g., BOPP)
  • Polylactic acid film (PLA) and certain other bio-polymers or biodegradables
  • Recyclable films
How much film material can I save?
If you want your packages to remain the same size, you can save 8 to 12 percent on the film just because of the smaller seal that EWI UltraThinSeal technology can create compared to traditional thermal sealing equipment. However, the bag itself can be made smaller too, as the quality seal allows for smaller headspace with no worries about excessive oxygen transmission or the product getting caught in a wider seal. With the seal and bag size reduced, material savings can approach 25 percent. See more benefits.
How much money can I save?
Here’s an example of how much a company that seals 40 – 45 million bags a year would save by switching to the EWI UltraThinSeal system. If you’d like us to help you make some projections specific to your business, please let us know!
Can UltraThinSeal improve the speed of my packaging line?
In some circumstances, absolutely. Our ultrasonic system is extremely fast – that is, if it’s appropriate for your particular purposes – and requires no heat-up time. At the very least, it achieves the same speeds as heat sealing, but without the warmup requirement at the beginning of each day.
What research have you conducted to test this technology?
The 5 million packages we’ve brought to market were part of a client’s extensive testing of our technology. This research occurred in our client’s production facility and is their intellectual property. The data you see throughout the site was confirmed by this research, and we’re using it with permission. We’re currently conducting in-house testing, and additional information will be made available soon.
Will you assess my existing equipment and provide a consultation?
We’d be glad to send a consultant to your facility to assess existing packaging equipment and discuss suitability for conversion, the economics of converting, and so on. We can also conduct sealing trials for you in our facility, using your specific packaging film. Please contact us if you’d like to schedule a consultation or discuss sealing trials.
Will this technology work with my existing machines?
We can integrate our UltraThinSeal system with horizontal and vertical form-fill seal (HFFS and VFFS) bagging machines. It’s compact enough to be mounted on rotary or reciprocal-style machines. Learn more about how it works.
